The Wells Girls Watching Fireworks in Nobleboro, ME
2019
6 x 6 inches
Smalto, gold, gold-leafed resin, stone on framed foam panel
My brother sent this photo on July 4th, 2019, of his wife and two daughters watching fireworks across a lake. I thought it was such a beautiful image of family and the ethereality that I’ve always associated with a good fireworks show, that I decided to try my first freehand, figurative mosaic. It was a different way of working than I’m used to, and a really fun challenge, but overall I think I will stick to abstraction. I do love the result of this particular piece. It has all the feeling I was going for.
