“Untitled
2020
8 x 8 inches
Smalto, gold on wood panel
Untitled was made during New York City’s Stay-At-Home order in response to the Coronavirus. During that time the studio was one of the only safe places to be. It was also a difficult at that point to acquire new materials, so I turned towards smalto I had stockpiled over the years. I chose green as the main color because we were close to St Patrick’s day (my family is Irish and it felt a little festive). I chose red as the complementary color because I wanted the challenge of trying to smoothly blend opposing colors in such a small area. And I used gold where the colors meet because the fusion of two very different things is very beautiful when done in love.
